Hi George,

In January 1865, a petition was circulated through the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment requesting the reinstatement of Major Eugene Blackwell (he had been Court Martial-ed after the Battle of Cedar Creek). At that time there were 198 men (including officers) present, with an additional 40 men on detailed duty. L. L. Britt does not appear on either list.

When crosschecked with the casualty lists for the battles of Fort Stedman and Petersburg, as well as the list of men that surrendered at Appomattox Court House, it is evident that L. L. Britt did not see further service with his regiment after being captured in 1863.
