Christopher Columbus Griffith

My 3rd great grandfather was Christopher Columbus Griffith from Scott County, Arkansas. I believe I found him on

Tumlinson’s Independent Company Cavalry.

Captain Wiley A. Tumlinson’s cavalry company was organized at Waldron, Scott County, Arkansas, on July 4, 1862. The company mustered into Confederate service at Big Creek, Sebastian County, Arkansas, on July 20, 1862. Tumlinson’s company operated as an independent cavalry troop until September 16, 1862, when it was dismounted to serve as an infantry company. Tumlinson’s company fought at Prairie Grove, Arkansas, December 7, 1862. During the army’s reorganization after the battle, Tumlinson’s company was transferred to Cocke’s Arkansas Regiment as (new) Company K on December 16, 1862.

Griffith, C C — Private. Died in hospital, November 11, 1862.

I wonder how I can find out where he was located before he died in the hospital on November 11, 1862? Also, where would I find out which hospital he died in or where he was buried? I have little experience with Civil War research.

Thank you for any suggestions.
