Thanks very much. The Arkansas History Commission, which has a collection of Moore's letters, lists him as being in the 22nd Arkansas but I knew that could not be correct for several reasons. In a letter dated 10 Sept. 1862 at Bentonville he refers to using his saddle for a pillow, so your dates for his brief fling as a cavalryman are right on the button.
