Re: 33rd Ark Infantry
In Response To: 33rd Ark Infantry ()

Most of the Arkansas Regimental Records ceased by the end of 1863 except for a few cases. There was several reasons for this. Usually a lack of paper or ability to keep and store records, due to the government of Arkansas moving to Washington, Ar. and finally to Rondo.

Hence, to find a record of someone who enlisted after 1863 in Arkansas, you would have to be lucky enough to find a record of your soldier in some other record source, such as a Prisoner of War list, Pension List, Parole lists, UCV or UDC membership Records, or other such lists.

Bryan Howerton, who has posted regularly on this board, is by far the expert to consult on these list. He has posted the 33rd Arkansas' Muster on the web.

From my experence he has researched most of the available records in posting these Muster Rolls. It usually takes some deep detailed research to add anything to most of his Muster Roll information.
