Another factor is that many, if not most, regiments enrolled in State service did not send their rolls to Richmond; nor did most home guards, local defense troops, and irregular forces. Some records of these units have been found at the Arkansas History Commission, county court houses, local historical societies, and in private collections. A researcher recently discovered the long-lost rolls of the Union County Home Guard in the court house there, and donated them to our webpage. Another researcher discovered a diary from McCarver's 14th Arkansas that included several names previously missing from the CSRs. He's currently transcribing the diary to send to us to post on our page.
