Dear Mr. Howerton,
Thank you very much for the informative "diatribe" entitled "Discussion of Confederate Records." In furtherance with this discussion, I offer the following information regarding the service of Anthon V. Bragg, brother of Dr. Junius N. Bragg who served in the 33rd Arkansas Infantry.
In the book, "Letters of a Confederate Surgeon," there are a number of references to Anthon Bragg. For example, the letter beginning on Page 262, dated January 6,1865 contains the following paragraph. "I think Anthon will get a furlough through maybe yet. Capt. N.[Newton] says he will send him up a furlough in the morning." Again, from Marshall Texas, dated May 14, 1865, Dr. Bragg writes on Page 275, "Anthon rec'd a letter from home yesterday, so Jim Lide told me, but I have not seen him yet."
I could cite a number of other references to Anthon Bragg prior to these, but in order to avoid falling under the description of "diatribe," I will leave it at this.
Finally, I have seen the original letters used to compile this book, since as a young man, I typed them for my grandmother. Recognizing the fraility of memory, I hope a researcher such as yourself will accept these written pieces as sufficient evidence of Anthon V. Bragg's service to the Confederate Army.
Sincerely,
Norman Savers
