The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Understanding the 3rd Confederate

Thanks Linda for the input. I had a GGGgrandfather in the 4th Tenn, wounded and captured at Perryville. Then direct ancestors in Shelby's Brigade. My interest in the 3rd Confederate Infantry is academic. I am following the career of J. S. Marmaduke and one of the blank spaces I have in that period of the war was his command of the 3rd. I have done some web searching and have answered some of the questions I have. Marmaduke was captured at Mine Creek, north of Fort Scott. I have some of his letters for that period which are interesting. I have also found him in the 7th US infantry at the time of the expedition to Utah, connecting the dots between Jo Johnston, Fagan and Hindman. The gap I am trying to fill in was the period after he resigned his commission from the Missouri State Guard in July 1861 and then he went south to Arkansas. He then took command of the 8-companies that made up the 1st Arkansas which later became the 3rd Confederate. I would love to know if there are any records in existence for this organization.
