Re: Understanding the 3rd Confederate

Bryan, this is some fascinating information. I am finishing up the edit of the Marmaduke Letters and orders received and sent book 1862-64, along with his service history. I am including a look at his service in the early days as an adjunct to the records to the Trans-Mississippi Order Book. I have found his service records in the 7th US Infantry and ironically a mention of him in JEB Stuarts diary of the plains near Ft. Kearney in 1857. Stuart had been wounded in action in the Smoky hills weeks before and Marmaduke was escorting recruits of the 7th Infantry to join the Mormon expedition.
