It was rather usual to name a unit's camp for one of their commanding officers. The 43rd Tennessee Infantry named their first
camp at Knoxville, Camp Key, for their Lt. Colonel, David M. Key.

At Vicksburg they were encamped at Camp Reynolds, named for their Brigade Commander, Col. A. W. Reynolds.
