Re: 1st Ark Mtd Rifles in Cherokee Nation

Ken, I wasn't clear on exactly the timeframe you were asking about. I don't have much information on the activities of the 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles during September 1861. They were in camp at Neosho, Missouri, on August 31, 1861, and at Camp Sevier, Arkansas, on October 31, 1861. In between those two dates, a member of the regiment, Robert Dacus, mentioned that "Southwest Missouri" was fairly quiet except for some infrequent minor skirmishing. No casualties were reported.

When the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles went into winter quarters at Cantonment Bee, near Huntsville, Arkansas, the 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles went into winter quarters at Cantonment Bragg (aka Camp Bragg), at Spadra Bluffs on the Arkansas River, opposite Clarksville. Each regiment prepared muster rolls on December 31, 1861, from their respective cantonments.

If you manage to sort out what they were up to during September 1861, would you post it for us? Thanks.
