Larry I'm sorry to hear you ancestor didn't make it home. My gr gr grandfather's body was claimed by his wife in little rock and brought back to Montgomery co. and he is buried in sims, north of Mt. Ida. Family history has been handed down to me that she was trying to take him to be buried in the family plot in Mt. Ida but the south fork of the quachita river was flooded and she couldn't get across, so she had to bury him in sims. Apparently after the battle at prairie grove, and during the retreat, the sick and wounded were put on boats and sent down the river to get them to little rock hospitals asap. I can't find any info on the 33rd's march from Van Buren back to camp near little rock. George suggests seeking out the broadfoot's supplement to the official records, on this issue. I know that the university at fayetteville has these volumes, but i'm in Nashville, just north of hope. Yes i know Patmos is just south of hope. I am looking to see if i can find them any closer to us.
