As a side note, many of the conscripts from the spring of 1862 had served before, but had received discharges, some due to wounds received at Shiloh.

Asa S. Morgan’s 26th Arkansas Infantry regiment originated under threat of conscription. The following comes from a POW statement made by Lieutenant Jesse T. Patterson, Company D; “Says there was a law passed conscripting every able bodied man. An officer went to the place in which he resided and gave notice that all able bodied men who did not enlist within a certain time would be conscripted – so he joined the Confederate Service.”
