The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

It would seem that three of the names on this list were NOT Militia Officers at that time. But were political appointees, such as the Honorable John S. Roane. They carry that political title, rather than a military rank, as part of their title, and each of them are noted political persons.

Would I be reading that correctly? Damon was asking me about Roane in another post about his Mitilia connect. But after being Governor I do not believe that he had a formal connection with the Militia as such and had retired to his farm north of Pine Bluff. But still he was very much a force within the state political community.

Of course Roane became a Brig-Gen. later, but again that seemed to be a political appointment and was not directly connected with the prewar State Militia. It, I agree, also would seem to be that July 1st 1861 marks a turning point in the organization and recruiting of Arkansaw troops for Confederate service.
