I don't think the 8th Arkansas was part of the initial call of troops. C. C. Danley, writing "for the Military Board" to President Jefferson Davis on June 13, 1861, stated, "The State has already organized and in process of speedy organization seven regiments, whose services she tenders, with the control of the whole of her military affairs, to the Government of the Confederate States."
