Green entered Confederate service at Little Rock, Arkansas on June 10, 1861 as captain of Company C, 5th Arkansas Infantry. He was elected as colonel of the regiment at Tupelo, MS, in early May 1862 after David Cross failed to be re-elected in the reorganization that followed implementation of the Confederate Conscription Act.

Other than that he served on a general court martial panel in February 1863, there doesn't appear to be much else in his records.
