Bryan,

Related to this topic I was wondering if you have any info regarding a James W. Herndon who shows up in Co G (I believe) of 2nd Arkansas Infantry. In doing local research my students turned up a family who settled here by 1880 with James W. Herndon as the father. Now in 1860 this family was in Georgia and did not arrive here until later. His father was in the Georgia Militia during the war and there is a James W. in one of the Georgia Artillery Batteries (Griffin's or something). Anyway, his burial is in the little Bethel Cemetery with a VA marker but with the Co G 2nd Ark Inf on it. A James Herndon attended the 1911 REunion, listed his address as Alexander, and on his pension, it lists 2nd Ark Inf and his wife as Lucy, which is a correct wife for the GA man. I cannot find any connection with why this man would have any reason to be in an Ark unit when his entire family was in GA and remained there until years after the war. I believe his CSR states the 2nd Ark soldier enlisted in Bradley Co. Just curious if you have any info onthe James W. Herndon of Co G 2nd Ark Inf that will prove or disprove this same man who lived and died in Saline Co.

THanks
