Re: Samuel Evans and incorrect VA Markers

The James W. Herndon that lived in Alexander, Saline County and family was from GA, the James W. Herndon buried in the Bethel Cemetery has a VA marker with Co G 2nd Ark, but there were no other Herndon's that lived in Saline County before 1880 and none other than this one family. So, I am quite confused as to how the burial has that info on the marker. Also, the fact that James W. Herndon, attended the 1911 Reunion and listed his address...Alexander and his unit Co G 2nd Ark Inf. He would have been about 23 in 1860 but the family didn't move to Saline Co until 1873 as proven by birthdates and locations of children. His father, Love Herndon served during the war with GA militia, he served with GA artillery...BUT....the man buried in Bethel cemetery is this James W. Herndon...but he surely did not serve in Co G 2nd Ark Inf! But the whole thing is quite confusing, but no other James Herndon lived in this particular community at any time, or no other Herndon's for that matter, so I am wondering if descendants did not know they were from GA and just assumed it was the James W. from 2nd Ark Inf. Would be great to find the other James W. who served in both CS and US units. Any ideas???
