Re: Samuel Evans and incorrect VA Markers

That is the problem though....the man in Saline County, was not in Arkansas until 1873...There were absolutely no Herndon's in Saline county EXCEPT the James W. Herndon family that came in 1873, He lived up until after 1911 and is found on all Saline co census records. BUT the man who attended the 1911 reunion gives his address as Alexander (which is the correct address for Bethel community) and unit as Co G 2nd Ark Inf. I can't figure why a man that lived in Georgia, was there until 1873 would have ever turned up in 2nd Ark Inf. You showed the Herndon that served in Crawford's BN and then 3rd Ark (US) from Bradley Co and I am thinking that the J W Herndon of Bradley County was infact the man that served in Co G 2nd Ark Inf.

I am thinking that descendants of the Saline Co James W. Herndon, knew their man served in the war, but for some reason, as information is known to get confused, researched, and thought this was their man's unit when in reality it should be that GA artillery unit.

This is quite confusing and I can't find anything to prove anything. But I am 99% sure the James W. Herndon, buried in Bethel Cemetery in Saline Co is the correct man from Georgia, but I think the unit info is where the mistake is found.
