I agree and would opt on repairing the stone if possible.

I had a great experience here in Reno, NV 10 years ago in obtaining a marker for a Confederate soldier who died in 1920, and was buried in an unmarked grave at the Mount View Cemetery here, a perpetual care facility.

The cemetery management had the appropriate VA forms available and processed all the paper work for me, all I did was provide proof of service, death certificate, and statement that no existing monument existed.

Without my knowledge, the cemetery placed the flat marker, and, at no charge. Not only that, they waived perpetual care charges in-as-much as such charges did not exist at the time of his burial. If we could all be so lucky!

One item not previously mentioned, cemetery managment must agree they will allow the stone to be placed. This is an entry on the required VA documents.
