Thank you for the information you posted. In my research it seems he was wounded during the battle of Cornith or a battle leading up to the Seige of Vicksburg. I have a copy of the Confederate Register(Death Certificate)showing the death of Pvt. John Wycliffe Shoptaw, 1st Ark Cav., 15 October 1863. He died at the Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. If you have any additional information please let me know. I mailed a request for a Headstone from the Veterans Administration this morning. Fred,GGrandson
