The Arms & Equipment in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Whiting Rifle - Diary date correction

Hayes I checked my notes and came up with this post. I am really looking for a Sutler named J.A.Legatt.This man is a relic hunter which I am not. This regiment was large and possibly not all companies had the same equipt.I don't know much about civil war era weapons.Does reflect your mention of Revolving rifles. Thanks Again.

"If it helps, the 3rd Michgan Cav was first encamped in Arkansas at
DeValls Bluff in the spring of 1864; then began the march in August of 1864
on Little Rock and moved to 'Michigan City,' 20 miles east of Little
Rock. But while encamped at DeValls Bluff, the men were issued .54
caliber Starr carbines to replace their obsolete .56 caliber Colt revolving
rifles. Have dug lots of both CRR .56 and .54 Starr carbine bullets from
3rd Mich Cav camps. Dug huge number of epaulets discarded, and one
breast plate folded in half, as well as US belt plate with the name "Corp.
E. Stone" scratched on the lead-soldered back. Do not know his
regiment."
