Re: Uniforms of the VRC/ Residuary Battalions

Thanks Matthew.

Another question about the VRC is this: where can we find rosters of the regiments? We like to know what men from Iowa served in the VRC.

I appreciate your input. On the Iowa forum there is a link to a photo of an unnamed soldier in a light colored uniform which we now believe is probably IC-VRC. Maybe you'd be interested in viewing the photo Matthew, and weigh in with your opinion.

Do you know anything about the uniform of the residuary battalions? Did they were the ususal dark blue or the veteran's sky blue?

The reason we have all these questions is this: an Iowa family has an old family photo album with two veteran's photos unnamed in it. The older generation of the war years naturally didn't write the names down and now several generations later these men are unknown by the family. So far we have not been able to find a relative linked to the VRC but they do have a relative in the 14th Iowa's Residuary Battalion. Knowing if the residuary uniform was dark blue or sky blue may help nail down the identification of this soldier.

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer with the rosters of the VRC or the uniforms of the RB.
