No problem, Ron. My book is on the ANV, but I also like to see what was going on in other theaters, so thanks for posting this.

I assume this is was the summer of 1864 outside Atlanta, right?

Don't know if you saw my other post but what the Yankees were using were probably heavy target rifles, which were quite accurate. There are some pictures on my web site:

The term "globe-sighted rifle" was pretty generic and I doubt Bass actually saw one up close.

Do you know if the 7th MS or its parent brigade had any sort of "corps of sharpshooters?"
