Re: "Long Range Globe Sited guns"

You are correct about the time of the incident. On July 9th 1864 Sharp's Brigade [Hood's Corps, Hindman's old division] now was still on the west side of the Chattahoochee and the federal sharpshooters were wreaking havov on the men in the trenches. The pickets had to change at night and when they finally evacuated the west bank, they did so in secret with men making as little noise as possible. They crossed the "Hooch" in the early morning hours of the 10th of July and set up their new camps in the outer line about three miles from Atlanta. The Brigade sharpshooters were established in July 1862 by General Ronald Chalmers as one of the first brigade sharpshooter units. Their official designation was the 9th Battalion Mississippi Sharpshooters. They were made up mostly of men from the 7th, 9th, 10th Miss. Some men from the 41st and 44th later joined the unit as it suffered casualties.
