Thanks for the info. In 1862, following the enabling act by the Confederate Congress, a number of sharpshooter battalions were formed. Some, like the 9th Mississippi Sharpshooters in the AOT and the 3rd GA Sharpshooters in the ANV, were separate units with their own rosters. Most, however, were composite units.

My book concerns the sharpshooters of the ANV, but I do have a chapter on the AOT. They did have sharpshooter battalions, but that AOT never seems to have had a consistent policy on the matter, and many of the sharpshooter outfits were disbanded after the Atlanta campaign.

There's still a lot of room for someone to write about the history of the AOT's sharpshooters.
