It was a carbine. It was overall the length of an old 10 gage double barrel shotgun. I know what a PA or KY long rifle looks like and it was not one. I have seen a reproduction of this gun at Cabela's but it had a "Monte Carlo" stock for modern black powder hunting and the real old one was smooth on both sides. The guy at the gun counter said theirs was supposed to be like an old short barrel Hawkin Range rifle. I just cannot picture a Hawkin being used in Virginia during the War for Southern Independence.
