I have thought that it may have been cut down or modified in some way. It did not have the curved stock of most 19th Cen hunting rifles, but it did have the brass curved butt & patch box. Most CSA Cavalry units formed in 1861 and 1862 had to arm themselves or wait until they captured equipment. Who knows...
