Thanks, Ryan, Mike and all for your several helpful contributions. Let me add a few things due to my research of the 43rd.
Any flag taken by the Minnesota bunch at Corinth would not have had Vicksburg on it as both the Siege and 2nd Corinth took place before then. My guess is it would have had Iuka on it and maybe Hatchie Bridge.
I have come up with the following documented battles for the 43rd for which honors could be put on a flag: 2nd Corinth (under Van Dorn), Chickasaw Bayou, Snyders Bluff, Big Black River Bridge (all while fighting Grant's advance toward Vicksburg) , Vicksburg, where the regiment lost heavily due to mines etc., Chickamauga, Meridian, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Spring Hill, Franklin, Nashville, 2nd Kinston NC, Bentonville.
One could make a flag for three different time periods: Post Vicksburg, 1864 Col Richardson presentation, and entire war. Vicksburg would have Iuka, Corinth and Vicksburg. Col Richardson presentation might also include Chickamauga and Kennesaw Mt. since the Regiment had fought there be this time, also possibly Meridian. The whole war could include any or all of the above. Doug
