I count 22 different individuals & Institutions
that claim to have a "piece" of this flag.
Doubtless, there are more out there.
Equally doubtless, some of these are bogus
claims.
Reminds one of the 20 or so flags reputed to
have come off the CSS Alabama or the dozen
odd pieces of Gen. Lee's HQ. flag.
Don't forget the dozens of Fort Sumter flag
pieces or the like number of Fort Pulaski pieces
scattered through the country.
I had one rather well known relic dealer tell me
that he takes some "old fabric cuts it into pieces
and then sells them as fragments of historic flags"
to the gullible. Grandma's curtains become "historic
flag fragments".
So, buyers beware.
Flag fragments are very nearly impossible to verify.
Without ironclad provennance they should be
avoided.
