Sorry to take so long. Here is the quote. Johnson J. Hooper was the editor of the Montgomery Weekly Mail, he declared that " we protest against the word stripes as applied to the broad bars of the flag of the Confederacy. The word is quite appropriate as applied to the Yankee ensign or a barber's pole: but it does not correctly describe the red and white divisions of the flag of the Confederate States." He then goes on to insist that the flag be called the Stars and Bars and declares that will be the mast head for his paper. Soon after, an illustration of the Stars and Bars begins to appear on the front page of each issue.
