Re: Fights at Cotton Creek and Escambia River

Both of these engagements were a part of the larger Mobile Campaign, as the Federals began to cut off Mobile from the surrounding area in terms of supplies and men. T. J. Lucas was commanding the Union forces pushing up from Pensacola to Pollard, while A. B. Spurling was commanding Union forces marching from Milton, FL to Andalusia, AL to Evergreen & Pollard to cut the railroad. Both completing their efforts around Pollard & Evergreen and marched to Blakely for the seige. According to Lucas' report March 28, 1865 they captured 19 officers including Clanton and 101 enlisted men, a battle-flag belonging to the 6th Alabama Cavalry and a number of horses and arms.
