Gerald,
You got me! I need to start drinking, so I can think a little clearer.
Let me revise my question. Does anyone know of historical references to Barton's Brigade during the siege of Vicksburg and specifically the losses in the command due to disease caused by their proximity to a marsh/swamp and/or due to the bombardment of South Fort by the Union Navy?
In my review of my own family members in the 41st Georgia and my step-father's ancestors in the 43rd, over half were "in the hospital" at the time of the paroles, apparently not due to combat.
Thanks Gerald,
Jim
