Re: Macon in '65 - Col. Lawton & Capt. Cromwell?

I don't think there was much of a battle. The call went out for any troops to go to Columbus on April 15, 1865 and the next day April 16 the city had surrendered.

I know some of the troops that headed for Columbus instead went to Macon where Howell Cobb surrendered it shortly after. I'm not sure but I think Macon probably surrendered on April 26, 1865 when Gen. Johnston surrendered all troops east of the Mississpi river. What troops that didn't surrender in Macon went to Albany Georgia and surrendered there on May 18, 1865.
