Re: Lt. Judson C. Sapp, 2nd Regt. GA Vol Inf.

Jack,

Here is what I have learned. Judson Council Sapp graduated from Mercer University in 1855, and studied law under Bartow in Savannah. According to his obituary from the Christian Index and a memorial record at Mercer, he enlisted in Burke Co. on April 19, 1861, in Co. D, 2nd Regt. GA Vols. He was wounded in the right arm during the 2nd day at Gettysburg but remained on the field (OR report). His arm was amputated above the elbow. During Lee's retreat, he had to be left behind at Martinsburg, Va. His brother George W. Sapp remained with him, and was captured. Judson died on Sept. 19, 1863.

I would be happy to email a copy of his obiturary to you. I also have a photograph that a Sapp family member sent to me. It is believed to be Judson Sapp. The quality of the scan is fair. The family letters I have located do not include any from Judson.

Regards,
Bruce
