The Carson's are my children's ancestors (MAJ John Carson). I wrote the article for the Taylor county Tracer ref. earlier about finding his sword in Alabama and giving a brief history of their service. There are few families who particpated in more significant events than these brothers and their father who signed the Georgia Ordinance of Secession. Ferd Carson's site Carson/Johnson geneology does a good job with the history.

MAJ John Carson rose to commnad the 12th Georgie and died of wounds he received at the battle of Winchester, VA in 1864. MAJ Carson first took command of the regiment at Sharpsburg, MD during fighting east of the cornfield when the commander was killed. He was later wounded at Fredericksburg, and then captured at Spottsylvania. Returned to command the regiment just weeks after being exchanged. John Carson was mentioned in official dispatches as being one of the first Confederates to enter Gettysburg during the successful Confederate attack on the first day of the battle.

PVT Bobby Carson was killed at FT Steadman, VA fighting alongside his brother CPT Joseph Carson who was leading the assault element on FT Steadman during Lee's last offensive outside Petersburg.

SGT James Carson died of heat stroke during Jackson's brutal march north in hte summer heat to outflank Pope during the Second Manassass Campaign.
