Your ancestor Joseph Maxwell b. abt 1832 d. 3 Sep 1861 private April 25, 1861. 4th Inf Rgmt, Co C. Died September 3, 1861. You say he died at a battle at Cape Hatteras? Would that have been the capture of Fort Hatteras, 28-29 Aug 1861? A number of the garrison were wounded by shell fragments, five killed.

I'm investigating family relationships among the members of four Twiggs County Volunteer Infantry Regiments, the 4th GVI Co C, the 6th GVI Co I, the 26th GVI Co E, and the 48th GVI Co G. I have Private Maxwell's parents as Uriah and Mary A Watkins Maxwell. I also have quite a bit of information on his siblings and their marriages; he is part of a fairly large kinship group among the soldiers and families of Twiggs County. I would like to have whatever additional information is available on his family, if you would be so kind.
