Re: "Heavy Infantry"
The term "light infantry" appears frequently during the Civil War era, and you could reasonably infer that all others must be "heavy" infantry. However, if we're limiting the discussion to the Civil War, I don't know of any real distinction in terms of arms, equipment or uniforms. It seems that all infantry commands in terms of tactical use were "light" infantry.
