Re: Location of surrender of 12th GA militia

Lieutenant B. F. Whipple, 12th Georgia Militia, signed a parole certificate at Head-Quarters , U. S. Forces, BGen. E. M. McCook, May 20, 1865 at Thomasville, Georgia, no other records

M266: Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served from the State of Georgia

I would assume he was with those who surrendered to MCook at Tallahassee, Florida May 10, 1865

There are many cases that groups of POWs were moved from their point of surrender to another location before being paroled.

Although there is only the one informative card in his file, you would probably want his printed parole certificate form signed by him, along with a brief physical description. His records may be procured through the service noted in the Red enclosed box above.
