First, I apologize, as you posted in reference to William Howell before and I had not replied. You had provided many great links and I thank you for that. Yes, I have William H Howell death date, according to the "Widow's pension" the paperwork states that he died Oct. 10, 1897 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. I have been trying for years to obtain an obit. Also, contacted Gwinnett Historical Society to try and locate where he is buried. Have not been able to get the information, thus far.

I suspect William does not have a headstone wherever he is. I would like to remedy this some day. He is my husband's Great Grandfather and we believe he should be remembered for all that the 19th Regiment had gone thru.

William was wounded twice..he received a gunshot wound in the left knee at Dunn's Mill in August 1864(or Durins Mill..it's hard to read on the paperwork, I think this is what it says) in VA. If someone could correct me on what that might be, I would appreciate it. He was also shot in the left ankle in the Battle of Petersburg in August 1864.

As I mentioned on a previous post, 3 of men from the 19th are on William's Pension Paperwork, M. Haverty, Martin Nally, and James McGee. I have never found who William's parents are, and do not know if he was Irish. But I have noticed that nearly all of the men you mentioned are from Ireland. It makes me wonder if he may have been of Irish descent.

Also, you mention "Jackson Guards", was this part of Colquitt's Brigade? Question about the Southern Cross..did those men who returned home that were in the 19th regiment, did they receive the Southern Cross? I do not believe that William Howell (or his family members) were awarded this.

Also, John you posted your email on one of these posts...is that still current?
