Thanks so much for the reply. Dunn's Hill (not Dunn's Mill) really helps me. Again, hard to read on paperwork. I knew William was born in Georgia, but had to wonder why so many of these men were from Ireland in the same Company (Company B). Were these men assigned to Company B...again, I was wondering if William was of Irish descent. I have researched William at great length...problem is there are several William Howell's in Georgia at the same time, and I cant quite pin down which one is mine. I too think he is from Fulton County (1860 census) home of the Jackson Guards, but cant verify that Stephen Howell is his father.

Was not sure about the Southern Cross, thanks for verifying that an application was necessary..was not aware of that. I knew these were awarded to the family members of these men, as well, but thought the UDC put the list together to award them.
