Re: CSA General Hospital Charlottesville VA

Mary --

The 26th Georgia Regiment was not present on any battlefield until Gaines Mill, Va, June 27, 1862. Hardy M Johnson was dead before that battle. The service record includes a number of documents concerning his service and illness. He was admitted to Charlottesville Va hospital, June 11, 1862, and died on June 19th. Cause of death - typhoid pneumonia. In 1863 Wilson Johnson, adminstrator of his estate, filed a claim for his service in Brooks County GA. Signed documents processed in Brooks County appear in Johnson's service file, which can be ordered here.
