In addition to my GG Grandfather James C. Barrs of Company E, 1st Georgia Infantry Reserve (Symons') my GG Grandfather John Ashley Boyett and his son Edward J. Boyett were also at Fort McAllister on December 13, 1864 when Union General Sherman's overwhelming forces overran Fort McAllister. They too served in Company E, 1st Georgia Infantry Reserve (Symons'). GG Grandfather James C. Barrs was transported to a Hilton Head Union hospital with Typhoid Fever. When he recovered he was Transported to Ft. Delaware Union Prison for the duration of The War. GG Grandfather John Ashley Boyett and his son Edward J. Boyett were transported to the Point Lookout Union Prison Camp. GG Grandfather John Ashley Boyett was exchanged in mid February 1865 at Coxes Landing on the James River and rushed to Richmons receiving hospital #9 and then transferred to the CSA Jackson Hospital the next day. He died of 'intermittent fever" probably Typhoid Fever on March 1, 1865 and was buried March 2, 1865 in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. Edward J. Boyett survived The War and imprisonment as did GG Grandfather James C. Barrs and died in Taylor County Florida in 1925. GG Grandfather John Ashley Boyett's two oldest sons, Francis and William Boyett, also died in Richmond and were buried in the Hollywood Cemetery. The youngest son of GG Grandfathere John Ashley and Nancy Boyett was to young to serve having been born in 1854 in the Nankin District of Brooks County Georgia. Three of the five males in John Ashley Boyett and Nancy Holwell's family died in Richmond and only two lived after 1865... John Boyett and Edward J. Boyett, his older brother who served in the 8th Florida Infantry Regiment and survived to 1925 before passing away in Taylor County Florida.
