Alan, thanks. I knew he was not listed as one of the paroled prisoners. The only connection I have as far as to Vicksburg is an order promoting him to regimental surgeon, having passed the board. Evidently he was acting surgeon as he had enlisted as a private, but was awarded back pay to date of enlistment at the surgeons rate of pay.
