Re: Battle of Round Mountain, I. T.

Following Mahlon Erickson's suggestion, I contacted Gladys Kitchen at the Pawnee County Historical Society. This date I have received from Gladys Xerox copies of the information concerning the Battle of Round Mountain, I. T. Included is a copy of a letter to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs from Evan Jones. The letter is dated Lawrence, Kansas July(?)2, 1862.Typed along the top of this copy is "This letter is postitive and indisputable proof that the Battle of Round Mountain was fought on the big bend of the Arkansas River and NOT in present Payne County, OK." Gladys states that her research indicates that the battle was fought six (6) miles west and three (3) miles north of old Keyston, which puts the battle in Pawnee County. I'll post more as I decipher the information she forwarded to me.
