The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Chusto Talasah (Caving Banks)

There are several versions of the history of the battle. It has been awhile since I did my own research on it. A resident of the area contacted me wanting to 'dig into it'. I have a number of sources but I'm always look for more and more. This also connects to my interest in Indian Territory geography and in Robt C. Parks who had a store in the area. Since many of us have very limited time to invest, I was hoping others who are interested would join in to analyze the primary sources and what has been written by others such as Bill O'Brien, Robt DeMoss, Dean Tricket (Chronicles), etc.

There are, of course, the officer's reports in the ORs, Bates' diary and letters, Sparks' memoir, Folsom's memoirs, Drew's Papers and the Foreman Collection at Gilcrease (which I haven't seen but are cited in Gaines' "Confederate Cherokees"), and the Stephen Lewis interview in the Indian-Pioneer Papers. I'm sure there are other primary sources that I'm hoping will surface and perhaps someone who has hunted the area for relics of the battle.
