I am so sorry to hear that about Mr. O'Brien. If the battle occurred somewhat north of what is the generally accepted location my main question is did all the fighting take place east of Bird Creek? Or did Col. Cooper's units follow Opothleyahola's men across and continue the battle on the land west of the creek (i.e. within the creek bend itself where Opothleyahola's campsite was)? Or was it already getting dark by the time the loyalist Indians withdrew across the creek and Cooper declined to pursue?
