No, this is different family. Samuel Clay's family comes from Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. He was born in Indiana and moved to Lawrence county, and from there to Bourbon and Crawford counties in Kansas. Simmons and Simons are two completely different families. Our Simons' name is pronounced with a long i, like Simon + s. My grandpa used to tell telemarketers that asked for Mr. Simmons, to call back when they want to talk to Mr. Simons.
