I was looking through Edward's book and found another note I had made in the margin where his dates didn't seem to match up with the Official Report or other source. Have you noticed more of these? It doesn't distort the "message" but for those who are sticklers for details...

On page 45 is a report under the heading "12 May 1863". However, the report is actually Phillips' report to Blunt dated June 20th describing events that occurred about June 14-15th. The corresponding endnote says the report is dated May 22nd and cites OR Series 1, Vol 22, Part 1, page 350. There is no such report but the June 20th report is on page 349.

Following the report he says "Hugh Campbell, Company I, 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles CSA" [Watie's] was killed. Hugh Campbell's service record says he was killed March 10, 1863. The other person shown as killed, "Jack Seetler, Company A, Second Creek Mounted Volunteers CSA" is actually Jack Settler of Co. K, 1st Creek Mtd Vols whose service record states "Missing, killed, or taken prisoner 12 May 1863".

I also ran across another error in the endnotes to Chapter 5 on page 142. Endnote #43 cites Phillips' report of May 30th -- should be May 22nd -- from OR, Series 1, Vol 22, Part 1, page 338 -- should be page 337.

I know these are fairly minor but like I said, for those who are sticklers for details!
