Ken,

Thanks so much for your reply. It was greatly appreciated. I have been greatly impressed reading your posts on this message board forum.

I agree with your thoughts on the Texas Road or Texas Trail as a very likely location. I have also read some information that indicated it was near to the mouth of the creek into the Arkansas. Being a Muskogee historian in the past I have been told by long time historians here that the trail approximated Cherokee Street through what is now present Muskogee. and went along similar to the route of US 69 and the Katy Railroad. I have some doubts on this

An Indian Pioneer interview from a William C. Jackson is interesting reading to me. Much of what he says in the interview makes some sense to me. He states tha the oold trail went from the junction of the roads from the Nevins ferry and ran wouth theough the valley East of Bacone area and the Blind School and crossed Coody Creek one mile East from Muskogee's York Street. He states for years that that was the only ford on Coody Creek.

He states that the old stage line between Muskogee and Fort Smith ran in a southeast direction and passed just north of where the "old iron post" stands on the Wade place and came into the Texas trail at the ford on Coddy Creek. He states that the stage line went over the Texas Trail for three miles before branching off.

He further states that their once was an old sign that stood in the south junction of the roads directing travlers on the Texas road and it had a large pile of rocks around the base of it to support it. He states that the Texas Road then veared towards the town of Oktaha and said his family used it to haul cotton to the gin in Oktaha at one time because they received more for cotton in Oktaha than in Muskogee at the time. Of course the Texas Road can was part of the Honey Springs battlefield.

He also talks about the building of the Sally Brown School south of Muskogee which I know was near the creek and states that it wat built 1 1/2 miles East of York Street and one havl mile south of Coody Creek and was located near the Texas Road. This also makes sense to me as I know where this school house was.

I know that everything in the Indian Pioneer papers has to be looked at closely, but this seems to overall make a lot of sense and geographically seems to be correct. Yes I am aware of the Ella Coody Robinson article. As far as the Vann's I actually know a lady from that family that is in her 90's.

Ken, I am not sure where you live, but would love to talk with you concerning this..other items... and also possibly attending our history event on Saturday the 27th starting at the Three Rivers Museum in Muskogee. You can email me at roadcyclist64@gmail.com. Thanks Again! Roger
