Geo. W. Bain of the Signal Corps. is in fact George W. Bain per the Compiled Service Records.

Lieutenant Geo W. Bain, Signal Corps., recommended Lieutenant Bain, Signal Officer, on duty with Breckinridge's division, Headquarters, Hardee's Corps., Tullahoma, Tennessee, March 1, 1863, to the rank of Captain, endorsement of the Major and Chief of the Signal Corps. replied, " . . . there are no vacancies at present in the Signal Corps.," dtd March 19.1863, no further records [there are but 3 cards under his name]

1st Lieutenant George C. Bain, Lieutenant, Chief Signal Officer, Department & Army of Tennessee - Johnston, February 9, 1864, in a letter to General Cooper, dated January[?] 27,1864, he notes "At Missionary Ridge last October, I was assigned by General Bragg to duty as his Staff as Chief Signal Officer of the Army . . . in Tullahoma last spring, I was very warmly recommended by Lt. Gen. Hardee for promotion . . .
[Note, there are some 99 cards in his service record files, I only went thru the first couple of cards, there may be mention of the Buckner Guards further down his file]
